As the official AI partner of the 2019 Grammy Awards, IBM was asked to solve something they’ve been trying to do for years: increase fan engagement. So we decided to use one of IBM Watson’s unique features in analyzing data to find connections, to create ‘Grammy Connect’ and uncover the unexpected connections between Grammy-nominated artists, industry professionals and other celebrities. Fans could navigate by genre, award category or by clicking on the image of an artist to see who they’re connected to. We found more than 20 million connections and some surprising discoveries like Norah Jones being the most connected woman or Brandi Carlile sharing a passion for helping people affected by wildfires as other artists.
